Publishing Statement

I combine my academic interests and research foundations with my professional pursuits, aiming to make meaningful contributions to academic and artistic communities and the publishing industry. I have worked in various new and traditional media settings, navigating contemporary print and online publishing transitions and modalities. I’ve also managed content development and strategic planning in non-profit settings and software development teams building infrastructures for scholarly communication.

As an active member of the American Association of Publishers, I’ve served on the Committee for Digital Innovation, the Professional and Scholarly Publishing Executive Council, and the Copyright and Policy Committee of the Association of Learned and Professional and Society Publishers (ALPS), allowing me to gain insights into industry trends and policy developments.

I frequently participate in conferences and panels, discussing topics such as the future of publishing, copyright issues, and the challenges and opportunities presented by digital media. I am the Editor of Information, Medium, and Society: Journal of Publishing Studies and Chair of the Information, Medium, and Society: Publishing Studies Research Network. With this Research Network, we seek to offer a framework to approach the question of what makes this domain of social practice unique. We have a twofold aim. On the one hand, we set out to consider the conceptual frames – a social theory of publishing. On the other hand, we are equally concerned with considerations of practice – how Publishing Studies shapes the development of a professional community that ‘lives’ in cultures and societies and shapes persons.
